Antique cars, 1960s, 1970s and Beatles theme, food, garage sales, face painting, a stiltwalker . . . it was all there at The Downtown Hammond Council's 5th Annual Eat Shop and Rock.
Support your local communities and businesses. Support Hammond! I do not live in Hammond, though I did graduate from Purdue University in Hammond. I am originally from Illinois and live in Griffith. I see Northwest Indiana as a great region. We can make a difference by participating in our local and near by community events, and by shopping local. We need to give industry a reason to move to NW Indiana. It starts with events like this. It grows through your involvement and sustaining a culture of change toward improving our regional standard of life. Get involved!
The fun part for me was seeing the children enjoying themselves, getting their face painted, having a shaken lemonade, making their own record, and a photo booth that everyone enjoyed! Music was provided by Chad Clifford of the Crawpuppies, and then later by the Chris & Lou Band.
Last years event I did not stay too long because of other photo shoots I had to do. This year I scheduled myself some more time to hang out and enjoy. It was sort of a "lazy" kind of a feeling day for me. Those are the ones I relax to. The vendors down the main strip were anything but. They were pumped with joy. It rubbed off on us as we walked around, taking everything in.
Here are some photos of the event. I hope you made it. If not, I will see you at the upcoming 9th annual Hammond Bizarre Bazzaar on September 20th. You definitely do not want to miss that one!!!
