Indiana Dunes National Park 10/5/2022

So, what my bride and I chose to do to celebrate our 8th wedding anniversary was to go out for pizza (because our reception was at a pizza joint), then go drive to somewhere nature and photograph.

We found ourselves at the Indiana Dunes National Park. It became a national park on February 15, 2019 (just a couple of days after my birthday). This became our nations 61st national park. We also went to the neighboring Indiana Dunes State Park where these photographs came from.

One thing that I never new was that the EV (electric vehicle) charging stations are free! We were able to charge up our Kia Niro Plug-In Hybrid for the way home. An approximate $8.00 still in my pocket (based on petrol cost for a standard vehicle).

It was nice and quiet out. Made you want to live out there. At least live closer so you could bicycle there. Fall changes in color has begun. Everything was looking back at us with smiles. We will have to go back in a week to check it out again.

Dunes Vintage Camper Rally 2017

This year there was a different turnout than in 2016, as far as the morning at least. I think the weather curtailed many plans. It was cold and breezy when I arrived in the morning, with a lot of rain coming in the afternoon. I am sure more will arrive after I leave.

Even with that, those who I saw at the camp grounds were enjoying camping. Weather is part of the adventure. Meeting people is part of the fun. Getting away from daily life and just sitting in the middle of the woods to unwind is a great feeling. Fires were burning to keep warm. Children were riding bicycles. Dogs abound were communicating (in a nice way), sniffing, and enjoying their walks.

Here are few photos I took of the those participating in this years event. I estimate the camp grounds were 85% occupied. The glamping was a small portion of that.

This event runs through the weekend. Go check it out!

5th Annual Hooked On Art

The Chesterton Annual Hooked On Art was upon us once again. This had to be the most fun, relaxing, joyful outdoor event I have ever been to. I cannot tell you why exactly. It was just in the air.

I arrived around 11:00 am and by chance found a parking spot very close to the West end of the festival. As soon as I got out of the car, I heard an accordion playing music what I would call "from the old country". It was very uplifting and enjoyable.

As I photographed the gentlemen posed and smiled as he played through the song. He came up to me and gave me his flyer, asking (in what seemed broken English, though I do not hear to well these days) if I would help spread the word for him. His smile and courtesy was heartfelt. Of course, this is what I do, help spread the word. His name is Steve Kowalczyk. He advertises ballroom dance music; Walz, Tango, Rumba, Foxtrot, Samba, Polka, Mazurka, and Tarantella. Some 290 songs. All of the information was written on on a standard size paper with a score from Santa Lucia on the flyer. I really did like his accordion music. You can contact him at steffko45@yahoo.com, or call him at 219.210.2738.

Here are some photos of the festival for you to enjoy!

Chalk art on the road! This is why I come to this festival. I become energized watching all who participate in this.

This was a scene that was funny. As I stood and looked around, I saw the dog in the photo below quickly approach the lady sitting and eating. Apparently he sniffed the food a mile away and had to come to her. It was obvious the dog owned it's human, who just followed the dog's gesture unknowingly. The lady was kind and gave the dog some of her food. A piece of bacon I think. Okay, bacon, I think the dog was right to walk up to her.

There were a number of dogs here. All sizes, breeds, age, and not one bark from any of them. The vibe was in the air, enjoy!!!

I watched this young girl in the photo below get involved with the art on the street. She was serious in her task, and felt the need to stand up for a break and clean her hands before doing anything else.

Is she painting the colors, or is the shadow breaking out into color? (Photo below.)

What I was happy about was all of the children events going on. The children looked like they felt in charge of their creations, which they should. Understand, this was all serious work.

I was very impressed with this artist of water colors at the Green Beetle Shop. You can catch him July 30th at the Rensselaer "Rock The Arts", or check out his website by clicking "here".

Found my friend Tony Cortina playing on the side stage . . . one of the nicest guys (besides me) that you will ever meet.
