Illumination at The Morton Arboretum

This was cool. Seeing all the different lights, some ever changing. Some you had to press a button to change, while others you had to "hug" to change. In all, a real light experience.

The Morton Arboretum has been one of my special places to go for about 20 years now. Though, I became a member for the first time in 2014. What is cool about the membership, is the notifications you get when special events, like this Illumination event, are E-mailed to you. This time Christi saw the event in our hotel room magazine, while we were celebrating NYE with The Steepwater Band at the Chicago House of Blues. She saw the add, and said we are going. Of course I said okay!

Christi and I, both being photographers, have a different eye. We also have a different approach, one being she will improve in software, and I will try to do it "in camera" (avoiding software as much as I can). Today, both are art forms. One is not better than the other. It is just a difference in where our passion for photography directs us.

So given we both photographed, here are my photos. When Christi has her blog up with here photos, I will link it.

Wife Christi taking a photo, and son Nick (left) getting ready too . . .

Have you hugged a tree today? Some of the Illumination is created by us. In the next couple photos, as you hugged the tree, the lighting changed.

The next couple photos are of Christi hugging a tree.

Some of these lit trees reminds me of Harry Potter. I thought of my friend Lilly when photographing some of these.

Given the back lighting of the trees, it highlights the silhouettes of the people who are standing near.

The next two photos are of a light show, sort of light movie if you will on the changing of the seasons.

A forest of chandeliers . . . this was cool. Very Harry Potter'sh if you ask me.

The Morton Arboretum is located in Lisle, just North if I-88. It is easy to get to, so I suggest you get to it and see this Illumination show while it is still there. There is a fee to pay to get in, and the show ends January 3rd.
