Salamander Drake at Bulldog Park

Why? Because we can?

The most wonderful feeling is to feel free. Those who have been restrained, contained, constricted, restricted, know it best. While others treat life as if they are free, but stride to the beat of someone else. So why? Because we can?

Music helps us to re-think the "Why?", to show life as it is for the times, and when we feel free music gives us a shot of life, waking us up, telling it as it is, creating hope and dreams, getting real with it.

What does this have to do with Salamander Drake? Hell, I don't know. I do know that their music this evening freed me in some ways. Original music from the original artists will do that to you. Their music is their freedom I suppose, and it frees you from social and political norms so that you can redefine what being free is.

We need to let loose like Salamander Drake. We need to be free. Free to think, do, believe, choose, act. Not to cause harm, but to be free. Free to help others. Free to make music. Free to self interpret music.

My freedom is my photography. If it was not that, then it would be as an artist. If it was not that, then it would be as a grease monkey street race guy. If it was not that, then . . . I have the freedom for whatever "then" it will be.

Northwest Indiana has it happening in the arts, all arts. We need to make it loud. We need to make it home. Support the arts whether it be art galleries, artists themselves, music, theater, local DJs, photographers, anyone who will stand up to be free from the constraints of thought and being, whether imposed onto us or self imposed. Break the chain. Make it happen. Like psychedelic man . . .
