Songwriters Night @ Smokey Jo's

I love hippie type music, and I love roots music. However anytime I can listen to original music from the original artist, up front and close, I love that the most. Songwriters Night at Smokey Jo's in Crete, Illinois does that for me every first and third Wednesdays of the month, starting at 6:00 pm.

There are several places I go to for original music. Smokey Jo's is one that gives you that honkytonk vibe inside. The stage takes precedence in the inside design of the place. That sets the mood. The host, Dan Lemon, does the rest. It is a very inviting and family oriented place for eating and music.

I take a lot of photographs of musicians. Okay, perhaps in general, however musicians give me a different emotion with every note and word they put into a song. That emotion is what drives me to take the photo, to remember that moment of emotion so I can replay it as often as I view the photograph. Yes, I can recall every moment when looking at my photographs. This is why I do it for me, and share with you. So, when you see a string of images in this or any other of my blogs, do note that there was an emotion happening that I wanted to capture. You are probably looking at twenty percent of what I photographed. The rest are just kept or tossed because they did not meet or exceed my expectations. Those who know my background know I am quality driven. Not to say I can always produce it. I for sure do recognize it.

Reflecting on the musical moments of the night reminds me of "The Office Sessions" that took place in Chicago. A "Roots Music" based session from a pool of talent in and around the Chicago area. They got together and got down to it. My first taste of roots music outside Lou Shields, who played at Paul Henry's. All played original music. I could see a Lou Shields, Tony French, and Mississippi Gabe Carter get together and put on a really unique roots music show for Southern Cook County at Smokey Jo's.

Anyway, here are some photos from the evening.
