Kenny, Ryan, Lauren Blues

There is a lot to life, an infinite direction / journey to take. It is all your choice to do so. Stay in a tunnel or get out.

My bride and I got out this evening to enjoy these three perform; Kenny, Ryan, and Lauren. I had only seen Lauren perform once before at the opening of Tom Lounges Record Bin in Michigan City.

I believe you have to be emotional to play the blues. To be in touch with your feelings. To be able to open up and release those feelings to those around you. If you do this, I can only contemplate that it sucks the energy out of you by the end of the night. It helps to have an audience to do that with. It helps to have fellow musicians with you too who want to perform in the same fashion.

Does "getting into it" happen 100% all the way through a show? Probably not. I would think as a performer you pace yourself and allow the feeling to come and go to suit your personal need as a musician, for that moment. Do you make technical mistakes? Sure. If you are "pulling" you talent from the audience they will know. If you play through the mistakes, you earn our respect and we enjoy. If you, as the audience do not notice at all, shame on you for not paying attention. You are here for the music, aren't you? (Okay, maybe you are with friends or just happened to come upon the music going to a place. That is understandable. Your goal was not the music. But can it not be your goal once you are there?)

This trio of blend, blues, storytelling, worked well this evening. I enjoyed each individually and as a group of musicians. It made for a nice evening seeing other friends there, who came to enjoy the music. For us this is the direction / journey we took for this evening, which crossed our paths.

Enjoy the photographs.
