Hippie Fest 2025

Soap Bubble

There are a lot of annual festivals that take place. One that I never want to miss (and I am ashamed to say I have missed some) is Hippie Fest.

I specifically come to this festival to see and listen to Magic Bus. You cannot really discuss a hippie festival without bringing up their name. They are that iconic to us as the revival / continuation of our music from the hippie era.

Lots of people dressed in attire from back in the day, and many are the same people from back in that day. You can see the age range, where it be hippie's children, grand children, great grand children, that come to find good vibes from each other at this festival. Do not sell the festival or hippie movement short either, they are attracting new people as well who may have never had a hippie influence in their life. It is one big happy loving family.

I mostly enjoy photographing the hippies having fun, and I love seeing and photographing the VW's both busses and beetles there. Some straight up as they were originally bought (or close to), while others with the hippie paint scheme of the era. I still want to have my car painted, perhaps wrapped, to be a hippie car. I think that would be so cool.

This particular event attracts a lot of vendors too with mainly artists. I did by another hippie t-shirt from one vendor, and an original painting from an artist who I am hoping will do some commission work for me (she works out of Lafayette, not too far from me).

Here are photos from my time there, which I arrived in time to catch Magic Bus.

Had a soap bubble chase me, so I shot (photographed) back!

This next photograph is where I bought my art from.

More soap bubbles . . .

My timing was not there to see the 'arial girls' do their thing. I would have liked to have photographed it.

You can tell from Mark's hair this was an action shot. They were jumping / turning in 90 degree increments to the song.

Ha, and I just met Janis Joplin!!!!! Okay, not the real Janis, the one going on stage next. Sorry, I did not stay long enough to photograph her on stage. Had places to be. I will regret that until I can catch her show again.

Start of the conga line . . . Magic Bus going out into the crowd . . .

. . . while three of the band members stay on stage . . .

I pointed out the conga line coming back in to this little girl, but she was in her own world which is cool.
