"Sidekicked"
A Dramady - By Kim Powers
I want to first start off with Linda, who played Vivian Vance (Ethel Mertz on I Love Lucy). Linda is a wonderful actress. So many lines to present in this dramady, and she was "all in" with the character.
I first met Linda at my first theater photoshoot (at the Towle Theater) for the production of Ordinary Days. That show brought so many emotions from all of the characters. She also played in Love, Linda (The Life of Mrs. Cole Porter), and Vivien Leigh: The Last Press Conference, one of which I photographed and the other my bride photographed. She performed in a couple more at the Towle Theater, and has performed outside the Towle.
This "One-Broad Comedy" is about the last show of I Love Lucy, and all of the emotions Vivian built up throughout the nine years of being on the show. Her longtime analyst is with her in the dressing room sitting in a chair who she confides with. Needless to say, she has a lot to say. She has a lot to think about. She has a lot to let go of.
We think we know her (Vivian Vance), but I believe we see her as Ethel (Ethel Mertz). Which is . . .
Again, kudos to our Linda for putting on a wonderful performance. So many lines. So many emotions. So much "all in" for the character, that I saw Vivian Vance in front of me at times.
