The Morton Arboretum has grown and sustained through all their efforts to promote a "tree focused botanical garden and research center". It lies on 1,700 acres, with scientific research and education. I have been coming here since 1981.
Today they did a Blues, Brews, and BBQ event. I purchased the member early entry tickets knowing very well that I would not partake in the brews, but did want to listen to the blues. They had three blues bands playing at different locations across the acreage and at different starting times, and they overlapped throughout the day. Me, I came specifically to listen to my friend Big Dog Mercer. I had been a while since I last heard the band. I have to say, they have upped their blues since the last time I had seen them, perhaps five years past. They had, in my opinion, the optimal location in the picnic area near the north side of the east parking lot. Plenty of tree coverage for shade, easy to get to, and it seemed that the people at this location were more in tune with listening to blues than the other two locations I visited. The little girl in the above photograph was dancing with the Big Dog Mercer blues and having a blast, as were the other guests.
I do hope that The Morton Arboretum invites Big Dog Mercer back to next year's Blues, Brews, and BBQ. Their talent fit just right in with the ambiance of what The Morton Arboretum brings us. A relaxing and unforgetting time!
Enjoy the photographs . . .
This little tike in the next photograph had a quick head turn when the Big Dog Mercer band started playing. Her attention was glued to them.
One of the brew stops (of many stops) for you to check out the brew. I did partake in just a couple. One was good, the other not really to my liking. I think I was able to get 12 samples in all with my pass, however I kept to 2.
The little boy below had gone up to Big Dog Mercer while he was playing, very curious about the guitar and sound. Big Dog walked over to him while playing, and the youngster turned and ran, though when he got back to his parents he danced.
Back to the barn as it were, to finish this out with the Big Dog Mercer blues band.
What was very pleasing to see were young children getting into the blues of the Big Dog Mercer band. In the above photograph the young lady dropped a tip off for the band.
Pets are not allowed at The Morton Arboretum except on pet day, which is only a couple times a year. Though this little doggie was snuck in, nobody minded.
It still amazes me how people enjoy photobombing. Though this time it was pretty cool looking.
I took some time away from Big Dog Mercer to check out the other two bands. Took some photographs along the way.
