Calumet Band with Sonny Lee

Sonny Lee is loved by everyone. His stage presence tells you why. His is calm, cool, collected, with his sax in hand. Music to the ears, soul, universe. Yes, I think highly of him, as do his fellow musicians.

So, my bride Christi and I decided this evening that we would go see the The Calumet Band with Sonny Lee, at Lencioni's in Lynwood. I had never been there before. It is a large enough place, and it was packed. Food was good. Not much room for a band. Here are some photos for you to enjoy!

The band, well let's just say, smooth . . .

The band describes themselves as Electric Rock n Soul, Dance!  Yes, the are just that. They played a variety of music, all which I knew and wanted to dance to, if there were room.  Here are the band members:

Terry Swanson - Lead Guitar / Vocal

John Shubat - Bass / Vocal

Peggy Shaffer - Drums / Vocal

Sonny Lee Tritt - Sax / Vocal

Here are some photos for you to enjoy.

The Crawpuppies @ Pickups

Had planned to stop at three places this evening. We hit one, skipped the second because the evening was growing short, and ended with The Crawpuppies at Pickups in Lynwood. Though, it took forever to find the place because all of the address information on the Internet said Chicago Heights. After a lot of driving around, we found our guys!!!

Illiana Derby Dames vs. Illinois Valley Vixens

Roller derby is always interesting to watch. It takes skill to skate the track, give and take hits, and to endure the 1-hour, keeping your energy throughout.

The bout today had a mixed team on the other side of the Illiana Derby Dames. The Illinois Valley Vixens added to their team, members of the South Shore Roller Girls to keep their count up. New team - White Mystry.  In the end, the Illiana Derby Dames won.

Today the proceeds from ticket sales were donated to the Carmelite Home for Children. Note, these ladies do this for free, and for charity, and they love every minute of it.

Here are the photos, starting with some warm up . . .

Equipment check. Safety first!!!! This is a full contact sport. The difference, these ladies do not roll around the ground in pain like soccer players. They tighten up their boot straps and get back in the game.

And their off!!! Well, sort of. This particular league is a slow flat track. Lots of pushing, shoving, gripping the floor with the skate action. It is . . . action, finding and holding position, clearing lanes, and sometimes just plain trying to keep your traction with the floor.

Illiana Derby Dames hale out of the Lynwood Skating Ring, in Lynwood, IL. You can find more about them here . . .
