Wild Ones 25th Annual Plant Sale

It is always a nature pleasure to kick off the year with plants. More so with native plants. Wild Ones Chapter 38 of Hammond, IN held their 25th Annual Native Plant Sale May 3rd. Many people were eager to get in and shop, and you saw by the line prior to opening.

My bride loves Nature. Me, I love plants because of my mom. I can be a hoarder of plants at times, just to feel closer to my mom. We started a little over 4 years ago I think to change our all grass backyard to native plants (with a waterfall). Our journey began. Perhaps a little overboard with a running water pond. But that helped us to create an inviting space to chill out at. Yes, today it takes some annual work to get it ready and waiting for us. But well worth it.

So, Wild Ones "promotes environmentally sound landscaping practices to encourage biodiversity through the preservation, restoration, and establishment of native plant communities and is a not-for-profit, environmental, educational, and advocacy organization." In short, their cool!!!

You can become a member with them. This gives you resources to ask for help, to attend educational webinars. You can volunteer to help, gaining you hands on experience, building your confidence level so that you can attack your back yard as my bride and I have, creating your own bit of nature right out your door.

Planting native is truly a rewarding venture. Scale it to your needs, your abilities. Learn and grow from there. For me it is a winter time reflection of design. Planning can be fun (and is for me). Knowing that your are contributing to the life of nature is heartwarming.

Here are a few photographs I took at this 25th Annual Plant Sale. Enjoy!

Wild Ones: Native Plants, Natural Landscapes - 24th Annual Plant Sale

This was cool. I had never been to this annual native plant sale before. My bride has many times, and has volunteered a couple of times. Wild Ones is also her resource when she has questions anytime about our native plants. Our backyard is the outcome of all this.

"Wild Ones . . . promotes environmentally sound landscaping practices to encourage biodiversity through the preservation, restoration, and establishment of native plant communities and is a not-for-profit, environmental, educational, and advocacy organization."

This event took place at Lake Etta County Park, located at 4801 W. 29th Ave., in Gary.

Here are some photographs from the event for you to enjoy. Please continue to the bottom of this blog for how to get in contact with Wild Ones.

Some photos I took on the way home. Anything mechanical and rusty I will photograph.

My take this morning. Thirteen plants . . .

18th Street Brewery Anniversary

Yes, this was the 1-year anniversary for the 18th Street Brewery located in Gary, and the return of Nomad Planets. I could not have thought of, or wished, a better fitting tribute to this Brewery than having the Nomad Planets perform again. I had a blast. Original brew. Original music. Original friends.

This was my second time here. Even in that short while, I have seen the changes. Change happens. Either you accept it, create it, or let it go by. The Nomad Planets have seen this brewery change more than I have over this past year. As they said (the Nomad Planets), this brewery is a part of the town and the local region, that is needed. Cheers! Here are the guys for this evening:

Nomad Planets. Not much to say, but Wow! I love these guys. All original music. All supporting original music. All supporting local NW Indiana bands, and local business like 18th Street Brewery. These guys only put out quality. That is why it takes them so frickin long to get an album out. I say that with cheer!
