Brite Black

I have been wanting to see my friend Micah and his wife Peggi sing as the duo Brite Black for some time now. I saw the Facebook event for a gig at Western Tap in Bloomington, IL, played a couple Brite Black vids for my bride from their website, and we committed to go.

I first met Micah and the Robert Brown Band (RBB) (that he plays for now) at Farmfest 450 August of 2013. I found out about Farmfest through The Steepwater Band who I have been following. The Robert Brown Band caught my attention that day with some serious grooving music. I saw Micah a bit set back on stage, hammering it out with the band. What struck me about Micah was how I could see the music and passion of the song inside him. His body articulated the guitar from within in a way that was captivating. I have seen RBB a couple times since then.

So this evening I met Peggi for the first time. Wow! Her performance stepped up the game in this powerhouse duo. Micah made the perfect backup man for her in every way. The way these two put their spin on songs was totally amazing. They could not have pulled it off without Peggi's voice, sincerity, articulation. Her performance of an Alanis Morissette song (Hand in My Pocket) was beyond belief.

I do encourage all of you to visit their sites which I have listed at the end of this blog, and to listen to their music. Like their Facebook page! They are pretty cool I think.

Take a look at the photos here. Like most venues, lighting without use of a flash is a challenge. Micah was catching the light well. Peggi was not. I would have suggested to them to switch positions, however that would have moved Peggi away from the audience, and you just do not do that to a lead singer. What you will see, so that you can "see" the photo better, are some changes to the photographs further down the page. I hope you like what I did.

Chicago After Nick

Christi and I helped my son Nick today move to Minnesota. He lived in Chicago downtown proper for the last few years. We did things together, and apart, while in Chicago. I crashed at his pad. He came down to visit. Thinking about it, Chicago will not be the same now. We shared it. So now it will have a different look to me now that my son is not there.

After Christi and I helped him pack his final belongings and wished him safe travels, we took a spin from his place down to the river walk, to the cultural museum, to "The Bean", and back to his building where we parked. Here are the photos.

Good luck in Minnesota, Nick!!! See you soon . . .
