NWI Comic-Con 2022

NWI Comic-Con with 14 VIP Guests, over 100 exhibitors, food, a lot of fans that includes a lot of cosplayers, 8 cosplayer judges, and more Spider Men than you can shake a stick at. A whole lot of fun to be had by all! That is what took place this Saturday, February 12th, at the Lake County Fair Grounds in Crown Point. You know what? It was only $12.00 at the door, and children 11 yrs. and younger get in free with a paid adult!!!

What draws me to these events is the pure enjoyment people are having indulging in comics and cosplay. They go from vendor to vendor and buy, they show off their cosplay and team up for more fun, they compete in trivia games, they listen to  panels, and of course the big thrill . . . the cosplay contest and awards.

NWI Comic-Con is a safe environment for all. No harassments of any kind. All races, gender, national origin, sexual orientation, color, disability, age, appearance, you name it, can participate in comfort. This is also a very family friendly convention.

I enjoyed the space this year too. This is the first year at the Lake County Fairgrounds. Plenty of walking room, making it easier to visit more vendors.

PBS in the house ya'll. I grew up with PBS showing Doctor Who. It was nice to see their booth, taking part in this years convention, supporting us and getting the word out on their programming.

Here are some photographs for you to enjoy. A lot of cosplay contest photos later on in the blog!

This first photograph was taken before they opened to the public.

Early birds were let in first. This is a good way to get first dibs on items that you are interested in. I suggest taking advantage of this. However don't fret if that is not your thing. There is so much available and time to see it all in.

Cue the queue! I was pleased to see the organized entry and what I felt was a quick registration. Probably the best I have seen in all my attendance of cons.

Families with children are a huge part of this convention. Some of the children get a bit overwhelmed, however parents can take it slow so that the youngsters can take it all in.

You will also see artists getting ideas for more art, and either taking notes or creating art on the spot.

Attendees getting registered . . .

If it were not for Brian and Kelly Grabinski we would not have this convention. Their heart for their comic-con shows, and for their love of NWI. Thank you!!! (Brian shown in the next photograph.)

Our cosplayer himself as Lord Voldemort, Luis!!! Luis cosplayed "Barf" in the past, and he hosts the cosplay contests. Thank you Luis!!!

And you cannot have this convention without the Girl Scout Troop #15528 and their cookies!

A children's pop culture trivia for 13 and under. The next photograph are the children turning in their answers to be judged, for the 1st part of their trivia contest.

Matt Valuckis. I cannot say enough good things about Matt. Matt is the MC for the stage activities, and presented the trivia questions throughout the day. Oh, and lets not forget about the panels he was involved in!

So, I saw this young Spider Man fan in his mom's arms, and asked if I could take his photograph with all the Spider Men near by. Well, he was one of the overwhelmed and could not look when he came close to them. He was very happy admiring from afar. His sister on the other hand, hammed it up with the other Spider Men.

Children Cosplay Time!

All of the children above received a ribbon for participating . . .

I happened to look out the window, and saw ice fishing going on . . .

You really get to understand it all, when you see a child looking through (and hopefully reading) their comics!

Teenage Cosplay Time!

Weird & Wild Weapons Panel

Provide them books read, and they will come . . .

Teenage Awards

Adult Cosplay Contest!

Kickstarter Comics Panel

Adult Awards

A big thanks again to Brian and Kelly Grabinski for creating this convention for us. This thanks extends to all the volunteers (you too Jethroe) who made the entry to the event easy, and made it safe and fun.
