"Superhero" at the Towle Theater

Superhero
The Musical
Book by John Logan
Music and Lyrics by Tom Kitt

Some people struggle to come back from a tragedy. When things happen in life you look for someone to help pull you through. A role model, a hero, like your father or some other figure that you believe in. Nobody's perfect, but for those moments you believe in perfection because that is what you need. Should that fall apart, well, you fall. Someone needs to be there to catch you, someone who can help guide you through, like a parent or other close relationship.

People enjoy distractions, time away from life, something that is life to you for that moment but may not be for others. You may read comics or watch super hero movies. Many of us have found outlets through other hobbies like the arts, that help us focus on what is important to us, to help define us. The hope is that we find center, to be comfortable with ourselves so that we can socialize. Those who found that path are the fortunate. We need to help those who have not.

This musical focuses on Simon, a young teen who spends a lot of time on the fire escape drawing comics. His way of dealing with his father's death from a couple of years prior. He hopes for a hero, and he finds heroes.
