It is always bitter sweet. You want the season to go on, yet you patiently wait for "A Fabulous 50's Christmas". This holiday musical gives me the time to reminisce the year gone by: "The Story of My Life", "The Spider or The Fly?", "Pippin", "Slow Food". All were great performances and added to the collection and history of performances from NW Indiana. You can do your own reminiscing by going to the "photos" tab at the top of the Towle Theater's website, or by clicking "here".
People like tradition. Yet there were some past seasons where there was change. I like change. The two shows that come to mind that I greatly enjoyed were "Plaid Tidings" and "An Evening with Dickens or A One-Man Christmas Carol". Both very holiday driven. Both super entertaining.
Yet there are reasons why tradition plays a part of the Towle Theater with "A Fabulous 50's Christmas". Not only because it was created for the Towle Theater, but because it represents our Christmas holiday seasons of past. The chosen music, the insertion of the commercials, all reminisce the 50's. This embracement carried on through the early 60's. Times with family, neighbors, community, church, singing songs of joy and happiness that bring us all together. I remember my family get togethers at my Aunts and the singing around the piano. Whomever had a talent put it on display.
The "Arts" are very important in life. They help us to express, feel alive, believe, think, feel content. The Towle Theater has given us all that throughout every year, and with this year end musical tradition.
Here are some photographs for the evening. I hope you do enjoy, and can make plans to experience this human need for life and change, in person.
