The Nightmare Room - Indiana Premiere
Based on a short story by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
A Psychological Thriller
By John Goodrum
Directed by Mark Baer
(Assistant Professor of Acting and Directing at Indiana University Northwest)
A "Psychological Thriller"? An understatement. When the show started I felt I was sitting in an Alfred Hitchcock scene. Like "wo".
These two ladies, the only actors in this play, fill the space in your mind for the entire evening. The set design is up close and personal, making you feel you are in the room with them. Simple, yet nothing lacking.
This is why I like theater. I have found the directing and acting does not allow you to come to a conclusion. I am pretty good reading ahead, what I see on television and the movies. I am able to predict. I think the directing and acting in those scenes are not crisp enough. Time is not given to rehearse perhaps. I do not know. What I do know, the script, directing, acting in "The Nightmare Room" once again through me off - happily.
Spoiler alert!
These photos will give away some of the enjoyment of this play. So, please go see the play first! Also, note the lighting color change during the photography. The lighting color reflects a change in time within the life of these two ladies. Even with that information, the photo sequence may throw you off a little. Another reason to go see the play first! Helen - Toya Turner
Enjoy!
This scene says a lot about how these ladies came into the game they are playing as adults. As children, they would role play and give each other the rules as they went along. Until, Helen chose to not follow the rules and play her own game, which made Catherine angry.
Bravo ladies!!!!
