So, we have a new thing in the town of Steger, "Artist Originals", happening every Wednesday at Austin Community Tavern. Any musician who would like to play, or try out their solo originals in front of an audience, are welcome to sign up. Contact Austin Community Tavern through there Facebook page. There address is at the end of this blog.
The first installment of what is planned to be a long and never ending series came from Mark Mybeck, member of Nomad Planets. I have known Mark for over 10 years now, first meeting him and Nomad Planets at Beatles Fest where they played. Mark is a song writer, however he states he is a bit timid when it comes to playing solo in front of an audience. Well, after the first two songs he shook off his small time jitters and gave us an excellent performance.
Mark is a story teller for sure. He talks to you as if we are all family living in the same house. He describes how or why he wrote his songs. When he sings them there is a lot of deep meaning brought out. He does open himself to us. A couple times I teared up, it was that heart felt.
So, Mark is our first "Artist Originals" in the series of sessions. Sort of like the "Office Sessions" I had gone to in Chicago in the past. A very friendly and safe environment to play your original music, solo.
The brain child behind this is Phillip Panozzo, owner of Austin Community Tavern. His personal desire is to offer a venue for musicians, and in this case for Wednesday nights, solo musicians of original music. The establishment is very home like. The waiting staff super customer friendly. There is food and of course adult beverages.
Note too that this show started at 7:00 pm and was an 1-1/2 hours long. Very easy to do in an evening and still get some sleep for the next day. Enjoy the photos!!!
