The Steepwater Band 1/6/2023

A crime was committed in southern Cook County in the town of Steger, Illinois tonight. It was a crime of passion. These were career hardened criminals. They had an accomplice too. Their crime was more towards domestic violence.

Why did this happen? Sure was not lack of support growing up. And there is no such thing as too much support. What happened? Bystanders were caught off guard. They did not talk about it to each other, which is super rare. Their eyes were glued to the scene of the crime. They just could not believe what they saw and listened to. They applauded and cheered these criminals. They were not razzing them on. They just wanted more!

The exact location is known as Austin Community Tavern. The perpetrators of the crime, The Steepwater Band. Their accomplice, Gerhart. What did they do actually? They provided a musical evening that was too good to be true. That is their crime!

It can be hard to bring good music to a community. It can be hard to support bands, and more so local music. When it does come out it needs to be true, heartfelt, hammering on all cylinders. The musicians must engage the bystanders, to make them want more. I have to say, this was the first time in all my years watching bands that I saw the entire audience glued to the stage. No side conversations distracting you. Gerhart did very well to prime the show. The Steepwater Band sealed the doors to this captured audience.

Things just clicked tonight. Gerhart gave us what we were not expecting, because they were new to us. That left us in anticipation on how the evening might go. The Steepwater Band hit the floor playing their harmonic rhythm with synced guitar play and beat. It was a very solid performance that presented all that they are. We new quickly how this evening would end. Perfection!

There are many new venues now for live music. Austin Community Tavern is one of them. For sitting and listening to music it is one of the best. Tonight was attended just right. Tables were full, standing room only, and still easy to get around. A bit difficult for a photographer though. I was not able to find "prime" locations to photograph from, for respect to the people who came for the music, as it should be.

Here are some photographs from the evening. Enjoy!
