Many people look forward to the fall season. Some like the brisk mornings sitting outside in their chairs (or on a log) with a cup of coffee or tea, while others enjoy the change in colors. Me, I like both.
The season can change slowly, making it very delightful. Cool brisk mornings and mild temperatures during the day. Sometimes sunny, sometimes slightly cloudy, other times the unwanted overcast. The season can also change very quickly, that if you blink you can miss it. This season seams to be that. Do not blink!
In my area South of Chicago, the change happened close to 'overnight' on October 30th. I could not travel on the 31st to see the tree colors, and by the time I did on November 2nd, most colors were gone. Just brown leaves on trees, or leaves fallen off.
So, today I drove around locally to chase Fall as fast as I could. I wanted to find whatever colors were left to look at. I have to say, I miss Cook County Illinois where I grew up at. Lots of forest preserves that I daily traveled through had always indicated when it was time. Where I am at now is more concrete and mortar.
The trees in and near my old home town felt so familiar to me. But, many colors alluded me today. This might be all there is now for Fall.
Here are some photographs from around the local area, including just over the boarder into Illinois. First, from around our house and neighbors.
The flowers below apparently came from seeds from planters on the upper deck. Nature finds a way. Hope they grow back next year.
Our backyard waterfall, under re-construction.
Our gazebo being rejuvenated back to the green (was green patinaed) from the rust over rust green.
A short drive through North Creek Meadow off Glenwood Lansing Road. A lot has changed. The heavy growth around the meadow was not there when I was a kid. My mom would take me there to shoot off my Estes rockets. Most made it down without hitting a tree. Some landed across the street in the farmer's field. Later we shot off my son's rockets there. After, they stopped mowing and now the growth.
One of my favorite places to eat. Gabe's Place on Main Street in Glenwood.
