The Morton Arboretum 11-9-2025

It snowed during the night. I was hoping for warmer weather and a chance to go back to The Morton Arboretum again, to see the change in colors before this.

It was overcast in Lisle, and there was not as much snow compared to at home (which got a dusting). Still, I was happy to see more colors than my last visit. I had thought I had missed them.

My bride and I drove around the West and East sides, stopping at the Visitor Center in between sides. It was definitely brisk out with the colder temperature and wind. I did photograph some out my driver's side window, while others I got out of the car to photograph. In all I had fun.

Here are the photographs from this trip to The Morton Arboretum.

We stopped to go into the Thornhill Education Center, just to find it was closed. However, my Bride started walking around on the paths adjacent to the building. We have never been on them. Pretty cool. We need to go back to show her the inside of the mansion library, and for us to see the outside during spring and summer. This first photograph is the path from the parking lot that takes you to the Center.

I am not sure why, the outside of the mansion library reminds me of the school in "Dead Poet's Society".

One small step for my bride, one huge leaf for mankind. Where are the dinosaurs?

The large leaf from above came from this skinny trunk tree (photograph below). No, I do not know what the tree is. If you know, let me know, and I will let others know, you know?.

Oh, did I mention this was doggie day at the Arboretum? It was! Chester, our Super Mut does not travel well, and it was very cold out so we left him at home. We felt it would be too much stress for him. He can come visit next year during the doggie day when it is warmer. (The Morton Arboretum calls it their "Dog Admission Day".)

The Morton Arboretum is all setup for their "Illumination: Tree Lights at The Morton Arboretum" show. The next two photographs the lights on the trees are on, yet hard to point out during the day. We have our tickets to attend the show for next week.

Sometimes you need to turn and look behind you to understand you are moving forward. (No, I was not driving when I photographed.)

Finally, I pulled over and went up the hill to see the two chairs where I saw the older couple reading to each other at a few weeks ago. And I forgot my book again.

I cannot emphasize enough about their reciprocal membership program. With a membership to The Morton Arboretum, you can also get into the Chicago Botanic Garden and use all of their benefits. (Note, special events at either place will have an additional fee.) For more information on this, and ability to get into other qualifying reciprocating gardens, go to this link.
