Rockopelli 2024

Rockopelli Music Fest

"Proceeds from Rockopelli go towards music lesson scholarships for students in Northwest Indiana as well grants to other local Northwest Indiana Charities."

This year's lineup:

Toronzo Cannon and The Chicago Way LLC

The Steepwater Band

Joanna Connor Band

Peach Jam A Tribute to the Allman Brothers Band

This event was held at Bulldog Park in Crown Point. It was super pleasing that The Steepwater Band, one of our local original music bands, played for us this event. Also super cool for me was to see blues legend Joanna Connor play!

My blogs are about what moves me. Peach Jam was very good. Not in my wheel house per se. I will need to state with no fault to the Toronzo Cannon band, I did not stick around that late to listen / photograph them. It had been a full day for me and I was wiped by that time.

Here are photographs for you to look at . . .

The Steepwater Band

So, this is when the entertainment refocused. This young dancer was dancing on the dance floor, then decided to take stage next to Eric and dance. A pretty good dancer. When Eric noticed (he was very much in his zone) he grinned from ear-to-ear. At that time I am not sure any of the other band members had noticed.

Joanna Connor joining Steepwater on stage. This was so cool.

When Joanna left stage our dancer came back.

Then our very own, most popular, and huge supporter of local music, Pied Piper Billy O. Jeff Massey called him the Pied Piper that night, because when he took stage was when all of the children showed up to dance. Talk about steeling the show. (Sorry, not you Billy, the children.)

I do not remember what song Steepwater was playing. This little person was dancing and bebopping up and down to perfect rhythm. When the tempo changed you saw the excitement change in bebop to go along with. Very very coordinated to the tempo and having fun.

The funniest part, which the photographs just looked to chaotic with undefined silhouettes to show, was when the parents of these children decided it was enough. The children were getting too rambunctious, and the parents tried (and I mean tried) to settle them down and get them off the dance floor. Picture multiple parents running in all directions after their kids, and the kids thinking it playtime for keep away. It was like "Flight Of The Bumblebee" going on up there. So funny. All Steepwater could do was keep playing and get a kick out of it. It is like it was a planned routine that you wanted to see in every Steepwater show. So fun.

Eric is always a cool cat. He plays around with me when he sees me photographing. I enjoy photographing his stage presence. Very dynamic and meaningful.

Part of The Steepwater Band groupies . . . yes I know them . . .

An enjoyable afternoon / evening of music for a good cause. This event is held each year. Well worth attending. Vendors for food and refreshment. Silent auctions to raise more money. People who care about music.
